Develop, direct, implement, monitor, and oversee the Company’s NERC Internal Compliance program. Develop program goals leading to demonstrated program maturity. Oversee companywide preparation for internal and external monitoring engagements. Engage and partner with internal stakeholders, industry peers, Regional Entities, and NERC to address standards and compliance matters. Direct the execution of compliance program tasks, including annual internal compliance reviews, risk assessments, and regulatory data requests. Review evidence attesting to compliance and internal controls and provide guidance to stakeholders.

SALARY RANGE: $95,350 - $157,300 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Be an influencer for our organization by promoting Bulk Electric System reliability and security initiatives with employees and leaders across the organization. Serve as a consultant and mentor for internal controls and compliance methodologies and best practices. 
  • Oversee compliance program processes and documentation associated with the monitoring, governance, and oversight of internal NERC compliance activities. Track and monitor progress of internal and external compliance activities (e.g., ad hoc filings associated with audits, self-reports, mitigation plans and settlements) and ensure quality and timeliness of completion of deliverables. 
  • Lead the NERC Compliance Team, an 80 member cross-matrix team comprised of generation, system operations, substation maintenance, transmission planning, information technology, physical security, and others, to actively monitor and enforce the NERC Internal Compliance program. Support leadership and management commitment by developing, planning, and executing periodic communication plan and review process. 
  • Direct, facilitate, and train employees throughout the Company who own, execute, assess, or materially impact compliance with reliability standards.
  • Serve as the Company’s primary compliance contact with regulatory authorities (e.g., NERC, WECC, MRO). Coordinate and facilitate external compliance monitoring activities, including audits, self-certifications, spot checks, data request, NERC Alerts, investigations and complaints.
  • Administer the Company’s NERC Internal Compliance Program, overseeing annual internal compliance reviews of Reliability Standards, risk analysis, and control development and testing. Oversee the utilization of the corporate GRC application for tracking and reporting of compliance activities.
  • Direct internal Standard Engagement/Development lifecycle activities. Coordinate review and collaboration across departments to evaluate impact of proposed changes, develop comments and submit recommended ballot positions. Lead Reliability Standard implementation execution by influencing program documentation, systems, and resources. 
  • Maintain and implement tools for effective event analysis and instill a culture of accurate and timely reporting of compliance violations under self-reporting and self-logging provisions. Support stakeholders in the development of appropriate corrective and preventative controls. 
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with internal stakeholders, industry peers, Regional Entities, and NERC to achieve program maturity, risk reduction, and compliance adherence. 


  • Deliver results and drive performance of other employees that do not report to you, in positions both above and below your own. 
  • Actively participate in industry organizations, conferences, workshops and forums to provide BES reliability and security leadership and to remain at the forefront of issues relating to reliability standard compliance.
  • Experience with FERC, NERC, or other regulatory frameworks is preferred. 


  • Minimum of (5) five years of experience in utility industry, project management, compliance, or information technology required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


  • Unquestionable integrity with the ability to exercise good judgment and make ethical business decisions.
  • Expert communicator in formal settings with senior leadership and/or external regulators.
  • Ability to identify risk and process gaps in existing processes, procedures, and systems. 
  • Demonstrated ability make well informed decisions with little or no guidance. 
  • Proven success in training and facilitation in a team environment.
  • Strong team player with ability to think ahead and plan for changes in compliance program requirements, influence priorities, and assess performance against established goals.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on process improvement.
  • Strong time management, planning and organizational skills are essential.
  • Use consistent good judgment and think creatively to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of other business department functions such as (IT, Generation, Electric Utility Operations, Internal Audit, Compliance).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously accesses, inputs, and retrieves electronic information and communicates regarding the information. Employee frequently moves about the office space. Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
