Job Specifications

WAGE:  $45.40 per hour (Determined by current Collective Bargaining Agreement) 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Assistant Plant Manager  

LOCATION:   Pueblo, Colorado

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work well with all employees and be familiar with safety rules.
  • Work in Power Delivery Sites, Power Delivery Substations and shops.
  • Testing of Power Delivery Substation and Generation Equipment and Safety Equipment.
  • Operate equipment for maintaining roads and sites.
  • Must be able to work completely independent without supervision.
  • Must be available for travel and overtime.
  • Must remain current on all technologies introduced by the department in the technician’s area of responsibility.
  • Must be able to train and advise others regarding electrical maintenance.
  • Must be able to provide direction and leadership to other personnel.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess an excellent safety record 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must have Master Electrician License in State of Colorado.
  • Proficient in all phases of construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid CO CDL Class A driver’s license in 90 days.
  • Works under the direction of the Plant Manager and Assistant Plant Manager
  • Assist Master Production Mechanic II when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) or more years’ Experience with EMD Electromotive Generators and their drivers.
  • Experience and understanding of Generation Protection Systems and the ability to oversee contractor or crews doing the required testing.
  • Assistance with required compliance submittals.
  • Experience safely working with and around heavy equipment, including earth movers and cranes.
  • Journeyman Electrician four (4) year apprenticeship or its equivalent. 
  • Master Electrician License in State of Colorado.
  • Master Electrician License in the State of Colorado (Black Hills Energy will reimburse employee the cost of any additional education or other cost to maintain this license.)

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must have the ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot generation equipment and their drivers.
  • Ability to perform work at various heights.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machines and equipment. Employee frequently accesses low and high areas with additional equipment, ascends/descends stairs, maintains coordination, and engages in repetitive motions (kneeling, reaching). Employee may occasionally use a respirator. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee routinely performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Occasionally perform work indoors and routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e., crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways). Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
