Job Specifications

Responsible for the safe preventive maintenance, repair, and general housekeeping of all electric mine equipment, machinery, and facilities. Provide manual assistance to assigned projects.

WAGE RANGE:   $23.20 - $34.66 per hour (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Maintenance Supervisor

LOCATION:   Gillette, Wyoming

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Complete all requirements of the WRD Electrician Technician II and maintain satisfactory and safe job performance. Following all company policies and procedures. 
  • Intermediate understanding and application of MSHA electrical regulations, the electrical regulations in Part 77 of CFR, and the NEC book, including MSHA electrical equipment checks.
  • Diagnose and perform electrical troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on all mine equipment and major components.
  • Remove and install generators, motors capacitors, and transformers.
  • Complete splices on all electric cables.
  • Trouble shoot controls and power system on electric shovels.   Test and set stalls and voltages on all motions of the electric shovel.
  • Location and relocation of portable substations including installation and resistance measurements of grids.
  • Provide verbal and written communication on the status of pending and ongoing maintenance projects with supervisors and maintenance crews.
  • Working safely is a condition of employment.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain professional working relationships with operations, maintenance, and management.
  • Maintain working relations with internal and external customers. 
  • Assist other mine personnel with tasks as directed. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum four (4) years mine related experience or combination of experience and schooling.
  • MSHA Qualified Electrician required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Ohms Law and AD/DC motor theory.
  • Solid understanding of power formulas.
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment including cable fault locators, breaker testers, oscilloscopes, volt meter, ohm meter, ammeter, megger, etc.
  • Knowledge of bucket truck, mobile mine equipment and preventive maintenance.
  • Knowledge of heavy lifting practices (rigging, balance points, etc.) desirable. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make decisions, monitor and evaluate electrical systems.
  • Ability to understand and interpret electrical equipment, maintenance manuals, parts books, and schematics.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machinery and equipment. Employee frequently transports objects, ascends/descends equipment, and engages in repetitive motion while operating machinery. Employee may occasionally operate computer/mobile device, ascend/descend stairs and reach. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Occasionally perform work indoors and routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e., crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways). Worker may be subject to vibration such as oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. Driving company vehicles and equipment will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing and a safe driving record to operate a motor vehicle.
