Provide engineering services to our natural gas utility operations in multiple states to ensure safe, reliable service to customers.  Reviews industry regulations and develop procedures to ensure compliance.  Performs complex system analysis and oversees implementation of actions and measures.  Leads a variety of natural gas projects with minimal supervision.

SALARY RANGE:    $84,050 - $126,100 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Engineering Manager

LOCATION:   Glenwood Springs, Colorado

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Keep abreast of new technological and regulatory developments that may affect Black Hills Energy including proficient knowledge of pipeline safety standards as specified in the Code of Federal Regulation 49 Part 192 (Transportation of Natural Gas by Pipeline).
• Under very minimal direction, provides general engineering support and service to natural gas operations in the company’s multiple state natural gas business. Provides mentoring to others.
• Identify and lead project and process improvement initiatives. Participate on continuous improvement teams as assigned. 
• Work with internal customers to ensure project adherence.
• Maintain a safe work environment. Show leadership in demonstrating Black Hills Energy’s safety policies, procedures and stop work authority. 
• Active engagement and facilitation of pipeline safety activities.
• Support change management efforts by actively contributing to initiatives
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Maintains a successful partnership with NGU operations and provide technical support as required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides professional services elsewhere in the company’s energy business, as requested which may require travel
• Maintain positive partnerships with state and federal pipeline safety commissions and support state and federal audits.
• Partners with operations managers, supervisors, and technicians.  Contact with vendors, suppliers, industry associations. Maintain positive working relationships and proactive communications with internal and external customers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of seven (7) years of gas industry and/or natural gas operations experience required.  
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Ability to anticipate, perform complex analysis, and solve a range of problems by analyzing possible solutions using standard engineering procedures. Evaluate and implement new/alternative approaches and solutions to problems.
• Demonstrated technical and operational expertise, which includes a proficient understanding of natural gas engineering principles.
• Proficient knowledge of support functions including but not limited to Finance, Accounting, IT, HR and Supply Chain. 
• Extensive knowledge of network design, standards, and system operations.
• Understand and apply advanced concepts of related engineering disciplines.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Effective presentation, facilitation and training skills.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Ability to lead and participate with cross-functional teams to manage projects of varying scale simultaneously.
• Team player and demonstrated ability to optimally lead in such an environment.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters. Willing to travel up to 25% (e.g., 1 week or 5 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
