Provide engineering services to our natural gas utility operations in multiple states.  Align with industry regulations.  Work in partnership with state operations to ensure safe, reliable service to customers.  Performs system analysis and recommends remedial actions and measures.  Manages a variety of natural gas projects under supervision.  Participate on multi-functional teams to support the company’s natural gas business.

SALARY RANGE:   $71,550 - $107,400 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Engineering Manager

LOCATION: This position can be located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Council Bluffs, Iowa, or Lawrence, Kansas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides general engineering support and service to operations in the company’s multiple state natural gas business.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Recommends improvements for work processes across the department or project. 
  • Ability to anticipate and solve a range of problems by analyzing possible solutions using standard engineering procedures.
  • Responsible for the hydraulic analysis of significant additions and modifications to the piping and pressure regulating systems within the company. Formulate and review engineering designs to optimize for reliability.
  • Analyze winter and summer settings for pressure regulator stations, including the over-pressurization characteristics studies.   
  • Maintain system models to include: updates from GIS, maps and field book notes, load zone revisions, develop load data from load count, residential and commercial projections, evaluate results, and correlate results from studies
  • Initiate, and conduct winter gauge surveys and low pressure regulator station correlation field tests
  • Work with GAO and other departments to review peak day forecasts and analysis.  

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in state and federal audits and community relations-based activities. 
  • With supervision, partners with state and federal pipeline safety commissions.
  • Partners with operations managers, supervisors, and technicians.  Contact with vendors, suppliers, industry associations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of gas industry experience; with proven knowledge of natural gas operations required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of natural gas engineering principles.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is helpful.
  • Solid understanding of 49 CFR Part 192.
  • Operational knowledge of industry and personal safety practices.
  • Basic knowledge of support functions including Finance, Accounting, IT, HR and Supply Chain. 
  • Proficient in word processing, database, hydraulic modeling and spreadsheet programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to handle numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to thoroughly detail analytical work.
  • Self-starter, enthusiastic, and proactive.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include:  Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment:  Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters. Willing to travel up to 25% (e.g. 1 week or 5 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
