This important role will safely install, repair, and service appliances covered under our Service Guard appliance repair plan Work with customers to provide an exceptional customer experience in every interaction. This role will install, remove, and replace gas meters, perform line locates, leak survey repairs, turn-on, and turn-off activities according to company policies and read meters as required. Also maintain Natural Gas Distribution system to provide safe, reliable energy to both residential and commercial customers.

SALARY RANGE:   Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.

  • Level I: $22.62 - $33.82 per hour
  • Level II:$25.31 - $37.96 per hour
  • Senior Level: $28.46 - $42.60 per hour

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Operations Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Install and repair customer equipment including both gas and electric appliances for residential customers.  Visually examines appliances for defects, performs diagnostic tests applying mechanical, electrical and gas theory or principles to determine cause of malfunction; repairs, adjusts or replaces components.
  • Promote customer acceptance of non-regulated company programs such as Service Guard products and services.
  • Resolve unusual service problems and customer complaints, providing cost estimates and recommendations on complex or uncommon malfunctions of customer owned appliances.
  • Locate gas services and mains for construction projects. 
  • Performs leak detection and cathodic protection activities and install domestic, commercial, and industrial meters and pressure regulating equipment.
  • When required, read customer meters on a scheduled basis, contact customers concerning collection of delinquent accounts and perform gas meter turn on and shut off activities in accordance with company policy. 
  • Provide requested after hours (on call) services as required.
  • Respond to all emergency requests, i.e.:  reported gas leaks, suspected carbon monoxide, simulations, outages, etc., in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Install, remove, and replace gas meters, perform line locates, leak survey repairs, turn-on, and turn-off activities according to company policies and read meters as required.
  • Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Level I

  • No experience required. Training provided.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • HVAC license required.

Level II:

  • Minimum of (2) two years of experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • HVAC license required.

Senior Level

  • Minimum of (4) four years of experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • HVAC license required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to obtain EPA Refrigerant Certificate within 12 months.
  • Knowledge of principles of natural gas.
  • Ability to make sound decisions related to safe operation of natural gas distribution system.
  • Ability to use electronic instruments for the diagnosis of complicated appliance repair problems.
  • Basic electricity knowledge.
  • Mechanical skills.
  • Strong appliance repair skills.
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are crucial.
  • Safe work record and demonstration of a strong work ethic.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machines and equipment. Employee frequently accesses low and high areas with additional equipment, ascends/descends stairs, maintains coordination, and engages in repetitive motions (kneeling, reaching). Employee may occasionally use a respirator. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee routinely performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Occasionally perform work indoors and routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e. crawl spaces, small enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways). Willing to travel up to 15% (e.g. 3.5 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
