Lead, plan and direct, in association with utility state leaders, the Company’s growth initiatives with respect to all facets of the Company’s business development activities. Collaborate, as appropriate, with the leaders in utility operations, and operations and support functions to strategically align and successfully demonstrate opportunities to grow margins and earnings per share.  

SALARY RANGE:   $137,150 - $226,300 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Senior Vice President, Growth and Strategy

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement strategies that improve revenues and margins for electric and natural gas utilities. 
  • Responsible for developing and performing market segment strategies to support margin and earnings growth.
  • Partner with regulatory and legal departments to develop and implement regulatory strategies to support revenue and earnings growth and help prepare appropriate filings with the state Public Utilities Commissions and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Provide expert testimony to support the Company’s critical initiatives and represent the Company’s interest before the Commissions.
  • Supervise the activities associated with development of consumer demand and energy forecasts and, corporate financial forecasts. 
  • Grow and improve the Company’s non-regulated businesses associated with the utilities – e.g., Service Guard and Technical Services.
  • Develop relationships and partner with key economic development entities to facilitate customer attraction, organic growth, and retention.  
  • Attract key customers to our service territory through proactive outreach and partnerships with state and local economic development entities. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with state utility leaders to develop business development plans in support of the strategic plan execution.
  • Lead and develop an impactful team capable of gathering and analyzing relevant customer data in order to aid strategic plan execution, management decisions, and drive new revenue growth.
  • Keep abreast of market conditions, valuable customer services opportunities and issues and the programs of other utilities and energy companies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of (10) ten years of increasingly progressive leadership and management experience in the utility and/or energy industry required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Engineering or related field, or a combination of education and experience required. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Prior experience in a marketing, business development, sales management, consumer research function is helpful.
  • Ability to lead a geographically dispersed team.
  • Hands-on familiarity with information technology passionate about customer relationship management.
  • Sales and marketing strategy development.
  • Engineering and economic principles, analysis and statistics.
  • Budgeting, financial planning and capital acquisition techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of utility and energy industry operations.
  • Solid understanding of financial, business, and managerial accounting.
  • Proven strategic planning, management and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record working with software systems and various software applications.
  • Must have effective human relations skills in taking care of management, staff, Commissioners, Commission Staff, Public Counsel or Advocate, consultants, customers, and the public.
  • Proven ability to understand and exercise excellent judgment in a sophisticated operating and communication environment.
  • Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to articulate, communicate, influence and negotiate.            
  • Project management skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously accesses, inputs, and retrieves electronic information and communicates regarding the information.  Employee frequently moves about the office space. Employee may occasionally: reach, push/pull, ascend/descend stairs, position self to access lower items, and move about the office. Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Willing to travel up to 50% (e.g. 2 weeks or 10 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
