The Marketing Communications Program Manager creates and implements marketing communications for internal and external audiences using both traditional and emerging channels of communications. Works closely with subject matter experts to create messaging that is timely, relevant and transparent for internal and external audiences. Works as part of the Brand Management and Communications team to develop and monitor the effectiveness of activities against objectives and assures integration across the system. This position requires an excellent writer and strategic thinker who is highly accountable and can manage multiple, high-profile projects at one time. This position will be expected to collaborate with teams so campaigns are on-strategy and effectively communicating the objective. Ensures communication voice and tone are on brand and in compliance with usage guidelines. Success in this role requires excellent writing and communication skills, as well as excellent time management, as you’ll collaborate with an internal team to deliver results on deadlines.

SALARY RANGE:    $85,450 - $140,900 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Produce multifaceted written content for a variety of mediums including presentation slides, social media, intranet content, websites, ad copy, posters, etc., that resonate with target audiences and provide clear and compelling communications.
  • Adhere to both the company and Associated Press Style guides.
  • Under direction of communication managers, plan content based on communications strategies and implement plans effectively.
  • Work closely with digital and graphic design teams to deliver effective communication for each channel
  • Incorporate input from multiple sources and deliver results.
  • Influence and obtain buy-in while managing stakeholders’ expectations.
  • Execute communications plans in collaboration with Brand Management and Communications team, using vehicles including the intranet, videos, social media, emails, events, e-newsletters, presentations and face-to-face interactions.
  • Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously, prioritizing to deliver on all deadlines and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


  • Maintain strong working relationships within department, including graphic design and digital teams.
  • Maintain supportive and respectful working relationships with all Black Hills Energy employees, business units and departments.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all vendors. 


  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in advertising, communications, public relations, marketing or related field required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Demonstrated experience in creating effective content and understanding of communications campaigns. 
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of traditional and digital communication, content creation, and brand journalism
  • Knowledge of advertising channels and interpreting market research.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • High attention to detail, with excellent proofreading skills.
  • Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management.
  • Experience articulating brand strategy in multiple communication platforms.
  • Strong client-facing, service and teamwork skills.
  • Hands-on experience with project management tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • High levels of self-motivation, curiosity, drive for solutions and creativity.
  • Ability to work productively in an environment where job requirements, knowledge, and priorities change rapidly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect for multiple review process.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
