This position requires relocation to Pueblo, Colorado. We are seeking experienced Journeyman Lineman to join our growing energy and utility company. You MUST have completed a four (4) year Lineman apprentice program or have completed 7200 hours of documented lineman training to be considered. This important role will provide new overhead and underground electric service to customers.  You will perform work in construction and maintenance of overhead and underground primary and secondary lines. Black Hills Energy does not sponsor applicants for work visas. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US.

PAY RANGE:

  • $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered for this position!
    • NOTICE: The $10K sign-on bonus is for external, new hires only. Current employees or rehires of Black Hills Energy are not eligible for this bonus. 
  • DOL Certified: $47.49 per hour
  • Non-DOL Certified: $46.38 per hour
  • Overtime on Saturday and Sunday is paid at double time.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Electric Operations Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform switching operations on transmission and distribution systems.
  • Skilled in repair and maintenance functions on service, secondary, distribution, and transmission systems.
  • Proficient in erection and setting of utility poles and structures, conductor pulling and stringing operations, transformer connections, and troubleshooting. 
  • Troubleshoot, install, replace or repair primary and secondary spans of both underground and overhead systems.
  • Safely performs energizing or de-energizing of electrical lines and transformers through the use of dead-front elbows, jumpers, fused cutouts, reclosers, switches, and switchgear.
  • Has a working knowledge of meter installation and removal to include proper documentation
  • Proficient in hot work procedures utilizing both rubber gloves and sleeves, as well as hot stick procedures.
  • Assists with the required training of apprentice lineman following our internal Joint Apprenticeship Committee standards.
  • Work on power quality and system reliability issues as required.
  • Utilize electric equipment to perform and complete daily tasks.
  • Proficient in record keeping with the ability to utilize computer programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Required to live in a location that allows for response to emergencies within 60 minutes.
  • Must be able to work outside, in extreme weather and temperature for extended periods of time.
  • This position may also include some travel for specialized training to other Black Hills Energy locations and for mutual aid storm work.
  • Required to perform stand-by as an outage first responder.
  • Willing to work overtime for after-hours callouts and extended days.

QUALIFICATIONS (DOL):

  • A Journeyman Lineman - DOL shall have completed a qualified (4) year apprenticeship and be Department of Labor (DOL) certified, and shall be capable of performing all types of line and service work in accordance with the Company’s established construction standards, operation standards, company policies and safety practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to attain and maintain a valid Colorado CDL Class “A” Driver’s license within 90 days.
  • Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and have a Department of Labor Certification.

QUALIFICATIONS (NON DOL):

  • A Journeyman Lineman - NON DOL shall have completed a qualified (4) year apprenticeship or have completed 7200 hours of documented lineman training and be able to obtain Department of Labor (DOL) certification within eighteen (18) months from date of hire. Shall be capable of performing all types of line and service work in accordance with the Company’s established construction standards, operation standards, company policies and safety practices.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to attain and maintain a valid Colorado CDL Class “A” Driver’s license within 90 days.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Work requires knowledge of and to follow all Construction and Operating Standards.
  • Work requires knowledge of and to follow all Company Policies and Safety Practices.
  • Must be able to complete OSHA requirements as outlined.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must be proficient pole climber.
  • Ability to forward bend, overhead reach, and complete elevated work to steady poles, use equipment and access tasks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machines and equipment. Employee frequently accesses low and high areas with additional equipment, ascends/descends stairs, maintains coordination, and engages in repetitive motions (kneeling, reaching). Employee may occasionally use a respirator. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee routinely performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Occasionally perform work indoors and routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e. crawl spaces, small enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways). Willing to travel up to 10% (e.g. 2 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
