Job Specifications

Provide engineering services to our natural gas utility operations in multiple states.  Reviews industry regulations and develop procedures to ensure compliance.  Work in partnership with state operations to ensure safe, reliable service to customers. Performs complex system analysis and oversees implementation of actions and measures. Leads a variety of natural gas projects with minimal supervision.

SALARY RANGE:   $82,000 - $123,000 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Keep abreast of new technological and regulatory developments that may affect the company. 
  • Under very minimal supervision, provides general engineering support and service to natural gas operations in the company’s multiple state natural gas business. 
  • Ability to anticipate, perform complex analysis, and solve a range of problems by analyzing possible solutions using standard engineering procedures.
  • Evaluate and implement new/alternative approaches and solutions to problems.
  • Lead project teams. Mentor peers on problem solving skills. 
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives. Participate on continuous improvement teams as assigned. 
  • Fully accountable for prioritizing projects. 
  • Work with internal customers to ensure project adherence.
  • Influence department/project work. Facilitate and inspire teamwork. 
  • Maintain a safe work environment. Show leadership in demonstrating the company’s safety policies, procedures and stop work authority. 
  • Lead safety initiatives and be seen as a safety leader.
  • Active engagement and facilitation of pipeline safety activities.
  • Support change management efforts by actively contributing to initiatives.
  • Provide technical input to teams or committees dealing with industry-wide issues and strategies. 
  • Acts as a role model. May provide technical direction and review to other engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Maintains a successful partnership with Natural Gas Utility Operations.
  • Provides expert technical support for Natural Gas Utility Operations.
  • Proficient knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192. 


  • Provides professional services elsewhere in the company’s energy business, as requested.
  • Participates in community relations-based activities.
  • Participates in state and federal audits.
  • Travel as necessary to support activities for Natural Gas Utility Operations.
  • Maintain positive partnerships with state and federal pipeline safety commissions
  • Partners with operations managers, supervisors, and technicians. Contact with vendors, suppliers, industry associations.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers. Proactively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Inspire confidence in others through effecting mentoring/training.
  • Perform work in close proximity to energized electrical facilities.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum of seven (7) years of gas industry experience; with proven knowledge of natural gas operations required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required.


  • Proficient understanding of natural gas engineering principles.
  • Proven technical expertise in a related discipline. 
  • Demonstrated technical and operational expertise.
  • Proficient knowledge of support functions including but not limited to Finance, Accounting, IT, HR and Supply Chain. 
  • Extensive knowledge of network design, standards, and system operations.
  • Understand and apply advanced concepts of related engineering disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Effective presentation, facilitation and training skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Proficient in word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to lead and participate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage projects of varying scale simultaneously.
  • Ability to thoroughly document analytical work.
  • Team player and demonstrated ability to effectively lead in such an environment.
  • Self-starter, energetic, and proactive.

Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include:  Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment:  Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters. Willing to travel up to 25% (e.g. 1 week or 5 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
