Job Description

In this Senior Analyst role you will support and assist the business within Black Hills Corporation Accounting Systems (AS) Department.  The team member will serve as a liaison between business users and IT development teams to evaluate business requests to determine requirements, feasibility, and will recommend business solutions that help to improve processes and provide functional support for financial systems as assigned. Supports financial and financial system applications as a subject matter expert.  

SALARY RANGE:  $62,850 - $94,200 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and functional support of the various modules employed by BHC of PeopleSoft Financials including but not limited to Supply Chain, General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Expenses
  • Provide production support for all financial system applications and serve as the primary support for end users.  Applications include but are not limited to PeopleSoft, PowerPlan, Hyperion Reporting and Essbase.  
  • Identify process efficiencies, recommend innovative use of software functionality, communicate design, implement solutions and train end-users.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement process improvements for utilization of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in Accounting and Finance to enhance internal controls and improve efficiencies.  
  • Possess an understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning systems and act as a subject matter expert to the finance & business organization.
  • Translate business/functional requirements into technical specifications for the IT organization.
  • Facilitate work sessions with business units to develop functional business requirements for complex projects.
  • Facilitate business process design/redesign sessions and create documentation, as needed for new methodology.
  • Provide testing and design support and consultation for assigned projects.
  • Provide assistance and project management skills on assigned projects. 
  • Participate in release planning, production validation, and other project related activities as needed.
  • Maintain and support system security protocols to ensure internal controls and segregation of duties are in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.  
  • Coach, mentor, and develop other Business Analysts as requested.
  • Provide oversight and direction to other Business Analysts as requested. 
  • Guide and advise employees as requested to meet the Organization’s expectations for productivity, quality and goal achievement.
  • Measure customer satisfaction at the end of projects by capturing customer feedback using appropriate techniques to gain, maintain, and improve long-term relationships. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more (5+) years of experience in a business analyst role required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Experience in developing test plan and test scripts.
  • Knowledge of ERP system.
  • Knowledge of Hyperion.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft.
  • SQL or Query writing knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of segregation of duties and internal controls.  
  • Working knowledge of accounting terms.
  • Working knowledge of interface procedures.
  • Understanding of project management.  
  • Demonstrated business analyst skills, including requirements definition, documentation, system testing, and user training.
  • Demonstrated success in building partnerships across a diverse organization.  
  • Highly organized to meet deadlines and maintain priorities.  
  • Adaptability to changing business environments.
  • Ability to act as a change agent to finance and business organization.
  • Must be skilled at creating functional & technical requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio) required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously (67% or more) required to: use fingers and hands, communicate, and have close visual acuity. Employee is frequently (34-66%) required to: ascend/descend stairs, position self to access lower items, and move about the office. Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Work environment:  Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Must be capable of occasional travel (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
