Job Description

In this role the Project Representative will manage electrical projects associated with the Distribution System Integrity Plan (DSIP). 

SALARY RANGE:   $74,800 - $112,200 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as project manager to schedule, direct, and oversee daily construction activities of contractor crews to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, on budget, and to the Company’s specifications. 
  • Track all work orders coming from the Construction Planning Department until they are completed and returned with all the required as-built documentation.
  • Ensure the quality of all work completed by contractor crews prior to energization and project completion.  
  • Be the contractor crew’s point of contact for all questions, including but not limited to scheduling, materials, construction standards, switching operations, safety rules, customer contacts, permitting, and logistics.
  • Ensure underground utility locates are completed prior to the start of work when required. 
  • Write and submit all required switching requests.  
  • Ensure customer contact is made to get access to all work locations or before all planned outages. 
  • Ensure all duties are performed safely according to BHC safety manual/procedures.
  • Complete regular on-site field visits with contractor crews, and be on site when critical line construction steps are being completed. 
  • Create and provide regular written and verbal communication to the management team on project schedules, completions, and progress. 
  • Communicate with other internal/external stakeholders, related to scheduling, status updates, and expectations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years of electrical construction, project management or other relevant experience required.
  • Experience and knowledge of BHE-SD electric construction standards, safety procedures, switching, tagging, and construction materials preferred. 
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in electric line construction, engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Journeyman electric utility experience preferred. 
  • OSHA certification preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical standards for construction, methods, and materials.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of project management methods.
  • Strong knowledge of computers and ability to use Microsoft Word Office products and trade related software.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to monitor multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, contractors and employees.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of a crew in a safe and efficient manner.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously (67% or more) required to: stand, walk, balance, bend or stoop, crawl, work at elevated heights, maintain eye and hand coordination, maintain finger and hand dexterity, hear, rotate and extend neck, maintain body posture, reach, talk, and have visual acuity to operate machines and equipment. Employee is frequently (34-66%) required to: access low and high areas with additional equipment, ascend/descend stairs, maintain hand and foot coordination, move hands in repetitive motion, kneel, reach above the shoulder, and sit. The employee may occasionally (less than 33%) be required to: use a respirator, and sit. Employee must be able to operate job related equipment and tools. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include:  Light work. The employee is continuously required to stand and walk. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Work environment:  Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level, and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height, or close quarters.  Must be capable of occasional travel (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
