Job Description

Drives growth across the market segment by managing the systems, processes and information to identify and connect customer opportunities to field sales people. Work with existing and potential customers – both within and outside of the utility’s Choice Gas program – to ensure the ongoing growth of the Black Hills Energy Services.

SALARY RANGE:   $44,500 - $66,800 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Supervisor Energy Services Program

LOCATION:  Kearney, NE or Denver, CO


  • Under general supervision, performs professional level work.
  • Obtain Choice business for Residential / Commercial, AG and Industrial Customers through outbound calling.
  • Understand Choice Program Rules while maintaining compliance.
  • Take Active Sales role during sign up campaigns and early sign up periods, inbound and outbound calling. 
  • Handle customer inquiries.
  • Attend/Prepare booths for select conferences.
  • CRM testing, assisting Analyst with enhancements.
  • Manage customer contact lists.
  • Facilitate expense and time reporting.
  • Gather competitive info and prices.
  • Maintain records and other administrative tasks.
  • Assist with delegation agreements outside of selection period.
  • Other duties as required.


  • Requires technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/processes. Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Able to interface directly with customers professionally and provide a high degree of customer satisfaction. 
  • Ability to represent the company through public speaking.
  • Write effectively and understand written communications, including but not limited to email.
  • May be required to carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working hours; may be required to respond during non-working hours, especially related to company emergencies.
  • Travel within geographic region (generally Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska), and occasionally out of the geographic region, may be required and is anticipated, including overnight and/or weekend travel.  Travel expected to be excessive during enrollment time.


  • Experience in sales and/or related market segment knowledge preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.


  • Intermediate computer skills specifically related to Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Proven sales ability and motivation to drive results; customer service focused.
  • Strong customer relationship qualities with great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and attention to details.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously (67% or more) required to: use fingers and hands, communicate, and have close visual acuity. Employee is frequently (34-66%) required to: reach, push/pull, ascend/descend stairs, position self to access lower items, and move about the office. Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Must be capable of up to 15% travel (e.g. 3.5 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.
