Job Description

Develop or revise and administer internal technical measurement and pressure regulating educational material for gas operations positions throughout all gas states.

SALARY RANGE:  $68,450 - $102,750 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Develop, revise and deliver comprehensive technical training materials to company field operations personnel that incorporate safety procedures and interactive hands-on training environments in their specialty area under established industry and company standards, codes and manufacturer requirements and guidelines. 
  • Serve as operator qualification evaluator and progression tester.
  • Develop and periodically revise measurement instrumentation standards. Review new technology and advise Engineering and Field Operations on recommended changes. Consult with Engineering, Field Operations, and industry resources regarding gas measurement and pressure regulating technological advances and problem solving/awareness along with advancing technology in our industry.
  • Develop and implement testing procedures of new instrumentation and present technical analysis and recommendations to appropriate Engineering and Material Standards Committees.
  • Provide basic technical support to company field operations, Engineering and DOT Technical Trainers on approved measurement equipment. Specifically: Orifice, Positive Displacement, Rotary, Turbine, Ultrasonic meters, pressure regulators and relief valves and control valves.
  • Participate in the Engineering facility design reviews of natural gas facilities involving metering and/or pressure regulation and overpressure protection. Including the development of company standard facilities.
  • Function as subject matter expert and provide advanced technical support on instrumentation training and configuration of flow computers, electronic correctors, RTUs, electronic indexes, smart transmitter/analyzers, Gas Chromatographs, control valves systems.
  • Function as subject matter expert and provide advanced technical support on specific instrumentation software, user programs and processes. Including working with IT to securely deploy to field technicians and to enterprise level infrastructure. 
  • Communicate and evaluate training materials and standards with other industry experts to ensure safety, compliance, and consistency.
  • Participate in industry seminars as a committee member or technical consultant, including providing training at conferences.
  • Responsible for the maintaining a current library of technical instructions and best practices on the company web site. 


  • Attend 40-80 hours of advanced training annually in his/her specialty area(s).
  • Desire to impart information to students and acquire extensive knowledge relative to his/her specialty area(s) in order to become recognized as the subject expert by field technicians and their supervisors.
  • Frequent travel, some overnight, is required.


  • Three years of relevant experience with one to three years of electronics experience required. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Natural gas measurement and pressure regulating equipment experience preferred.
  • Training/teaching experience preferred.
  • Trade certificate in Electronics or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred.
  • Membership in professional associations a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license.


  • Extensive knowledge of their specialty field(s) including up-to-date technical information, servicing, operation, and safety related issues.
  • Have knowledge of adult education principles and classroom mechanics.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Mechanical/electrical/electronic aptitude required.
  • Ability to operate manual and electric hand tools.
  • Ability to teach/explain technical concepts related to their specialties.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct training classes.
  • Ability to operate classroom hardware including computers and projectors used with computers.
  • Ability to impart best practices information.
  • Able to write/produce technical information for classroom and field technician use and teach in a wide variety of situations from the classroom to electronic means.
  • Ability to make decisions and prioritize in a multi-task environment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate training needs effectively at all levels within the corporation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously (67% or more) required to: use fingers and hands, communicate, and have close visual acuity. Employee is frequently (34-66%) required to: ascend/descend stairs, position self to access lower items, and move about the office. The employee may occasionally (less than 33%) be required to: climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and reach. Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level, and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height, or close quarters. Must be capable of up to 50% travel (e.g. 2 weeks or 10 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.
