Job Description

To effectively lead a service and operations workforce, focusing on obtaining organizational objectives within the guidelines of providing safe, reliable natural gas utility service to customers. 

SALARY RANGE: $73,350- $110,000 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Manager – Gas Operations 

LOCATION:  Denison, IA

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Proactively promote and lead safety initiatives in all phases of operations and in compliance with DOT, State, and Company regulations. 
  • Train, schedule, and supervise front-line employees performing work in the areas of construction, maintenance, appliance repair, and customer and administrative support.   
  • Implement annual gas operating plans and meet cost, regulated compliance, customer service, and quality standards.  
  • Actively participate in maintaining favorable community relations. 
  • Promote, sell, and manage non-regulated service programs, such as Service Guard and Technical Services.  
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in the emergency on-call rotation schedule.  
  • Actively sponsor and lead continuous improvement efforts. 
  • Model all Black Hills Corporation Values.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of relevant experience required. 
  • Supervisory experience or proven leadership skills and abilities required. 
  • College degree or equivalent experience required. 
  • Five years of utility industry experience and knowledge of gas operations desired.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of STORMS and FAME computer applications preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.  
  • Financial management, budgetary, planning, and/or forecasting skills.   
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks.  
  • Strong problem resolution skills and decision-making ability.      
  • Effective project management skills.   
  • Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously (67% or more) required to: stand, walk, balance, bend or stoop, crawl, work at elevated heights, maintain eye and hand coordination, maintain finger and hand dexterity, hear, rotate and extend neck, maintain body posture, reach, talk, and have visual acuity to operate machines and equipment. Employee is frequently (34-66%) required to: access low and high areas with additional equipment, ascend/descend stairs, maintain hand and foot coordination, move hands in repetitive motion, kneel, reach above the shoulder, and sit. The employee may occasionally (less than 33%) be required to: use a respirator, and sit. Employee must be able to operate job related equipment and tools. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Must be capable of up to 10% travel (e.g. 2 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.
