Job Specifications

The Compressor/Pipeline Technician facilitates the operation, maintenance and repair of the company’s transmission, compression, and underground gas storage assets.

SALARY RANGE: Determined by the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.

  • Level I: $27.38 - $41.08 per hour
  • Level II: $30.79 - $46.08 per hour
  • Senior Level: $33.87 - $50.91 per hour

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Supervisor Gas Operations 

LOCATION: Glenwood Springs, Colorado

  • The successful candidate will be eligible for geographic differential pay if they currently reside or once they have met the requirement to relocate to within 30 minutes of the reporting location. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for installing, relocating, replacing, maintaining and repairing gas lines. Maintenance of Company facilities including the installation, operation, and upkeep of transmission, compression and underground storage facilities.
  • Ensure the cost effective and efficient performance of all pipelines, valves and other related facilities.
  • Responsible for the general upkeep of all facilities and equipment, including pipeline right-of-way, including, but not limited to, repairing, coating and painting, building construction, weed control, etc.
  • Locate and mark facilities per Company Damage Prevention Program and One-Call procedures prior to and during encroachments and excavations.
  • Perform pipeline patrols, population density surveys, leak detection surveys and compliance driven inspections per company procedures.
  • Coordinate local Damage Prevention activities and participate in quality emergency responder programs. 
  • Provide oversight and inspection to ensure asset protection and compliance with procedures of excavation activities near pipeline facilities.
  • Responsible for inspection duties including completion of required documentation, as-built drawings, contractor oversight and supervision, act as Company representative during construction activities, report progress to Operations Management and ensure accurate reporting with Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenant, public official, emergency official and local organization (i.e. One-Call, Pipeline Group, Soil Conservation, etc.) meetings.
  • Inspect and coordinate the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
  • Train and lead all aspects of company and third-party personnel as required (i.e. personnel in progression, contractors, visitors, etc.)
  • Perform governmental compliance activities (PHMSA, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.), execute record keeping and data entry duties per company policies, and identify and accurately report concerns.
  • Participate in the development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes and work plans.
  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Level I:

  • No experience required. (Training provided)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Level II:

  • Minimum of (2) two years of related transmission pipelines, compressor station, and production experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Senior Level:

  • Minimum of (4) four years of related transmission pipelines, compressor station and production experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to achieve and maintain all Operator Qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification.
  • General knowledge of regulators and relief valves found on project lines, main lines and at compressor station facilities.
  • Detailed knowledge of natural gas compressor stations, underground storage facilities, transmission and gathering pipeline system operations.
  • Knowledge of operating costs and standard methodologies associated with natural gas pipeline operations, and the ability to estimate pipeline jobs.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases and liquids in high- and low-pressure systems.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Company policies, procedures and practices and regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of compressor and auxiliary equipment, engines, motors, cooling equipment, pump stations, pumps, dehydration equipment and process equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.
  • Perform work within a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedule, and focus attention to details, follow rules/procedures and work with an open and positive demeanor. 
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of working in solitary work environments as well as within work groups.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, operating systems, software, etc.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, etc.)
