This position is responsible for developing and managing customer relationships to support the company’s goal to generate structured transactions and energy management agreements in the mid and long-term energy markets.  Manage existing long and short-term purchase power agreements for retail and wholesale customers.  Monitor market policy to ensure Black Hills Energy’s interests are protected. 

SALARY RANGE:   $90,250 - $148,750

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager of Origination

LOCATION: Our Corporate Headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Represent the Company at industry events to help drive company awareness and build new relationships.
  • Identify and support execution of profitable long term wholesale power transactions and energy management agreements.
  • Identify Request for Proposal (RFP) and bilateral Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) opportunities. 
  • Analyze long-term power sale agreements that support the development of renewable assets and energy storage meeting the customers’ needs for sustainability and carbon free goals creating bilateral trading opportunities.
  • Manage and optimize existing wholesale contracts and long-term purchase/sale agreements.
  • Monitor market rules and rule changes to ensure the Company’s interests are protected and communicate internally.
  • Conduct business in accordance with NERC, FERC and WECC standards and business practices, corporate risk management and compliance policies.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor renewable energy opportunities and national trends impacting the future of renewable development opportunities and their competitiveness as they relate to customers and the company.
  • Support the Company with the plan to ensure the electric utilities comply with renewable mandates

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of (5) five years of experience in power origination, generation dispatch, energy trading, interchange scheduling, resource planning or business analysis required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze market data and develop sound strategies.  
  • Accomplished user of spreadsheet applications to perform power supply cost modeling.  
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Proven ability to understand and exercise excellent judgment in a complex, high stress, marketing environment.
  • Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of FERC, NERC, WECC and Eastern Interconnection market rules.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have effective human relations skills in dealing with management, staff, and customers.
