Job Specifications

Test, install and maintain transformer-rated meter installations. Perform or exchange Company specified self-contained and transformer-rated meter testing per test schedule. Recognize potential hazards, respond and correct all problems relating to revenue metering. 

WAGE RANGE:  Determined by current Collective Bargaining Agreement

  • NON-DOL Certified: $43.07 per hour
  • DOL Certified: $44.18 per hour

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Supervisor Meter Services

LOCATION:   Pueblo, Colorado


  • Site test transformer-rated meter installations per company specified test schedule. 
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain transformer rated meter installations. 
  • Respond and assist in resolving customer complaints requiring meter accuracy verification. 
  • Recognize potential hazards at self-contained and transformer-related meter installations. 
  • Perform scheduled meter site testing and meter exchanges as required. 
  • Operate and interpret the test results obtained from meter test equipment to verify meter accuracy and installation integrity. 
  • Perform bench testing of meters. 
  • Coordinate meter inventory with centralized meter shop. 
  • Install wiring in transformer-rated meter sockets. 
  • Proficient in record keeping with the ability to utilize computer programs. 
  • Proficient in job specific technical applications. 
  • Installation standards and work procedures established by the Company. 
  • Knowledge and compliance to safety policies, procedures and standards established by the Company and regulatory agencies. 
  • Attend safety meetings and other employee training as assigned.
  • The DOL role will assist with the required training of apprentice meter technicians following our internal Joint Apprenticeship Committee standards. 


  • Must be able to work outside, in extreme weather and temperature for extended periods of time. 
  • Willing to stay over-night out of town and be available to travel as projects require. 
  • Willing to work overtime for after-hours callouts and extended days. 
  • Must live within 60 minutes of reporting location.
  • Recognize and identify transformer secondary connections and customer electric service systems including bidirectional installations. 
  • Work on transformer-rated metering (600 Volts Max) on the secondary side of the transformer. Trained and proficient in bucket truck operation within 90 days of employment. 
  • Must follow all safety rules and requirements at all times. 
  • Maintain effective working relationship with direct supervisor and reporting manager.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers and other departments. 


  • A Journeyman Meter Technician – NON DOL shall have completed a qualified (4) year apprenticeship or have completed 7200 hours of documented meter technician training and be able to obtain Department of Labor (DOL) certification within eighteen (18) months from date of hire. Shall be capable of performing transformer-rated metering installations, troubleshooting, and testing in accordance with the Company’s established metering standards, work standards, company policies and safety practices. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver License. 
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical. 


  • Must have completed a four (4) year Meter Technician apprenticeship; and be Department of Labor (DOL) certified. Shall be capable of performing transformer-rated metering installations, troubleshooting, and testing in accordance with the Company’s established metering standards, work standards, company policies and safety practices. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver License. 
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machines and equipment. Employee frequently accesses low and high areas with additional equipment, ascends/descends stairs, maintains coordination, and engages in repetitive motions (kneeling, reaching). Employee may occasionally use a respirator. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee routinely performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Occasionally perform work indoors and routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e., crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways). Willing to travel up to 10% (e.g., 2 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
