The Mine Engineer II will provide technical engineering support to Mine Operations at the Wyodak Coal mine. The position will provide mining engineering functions to supporting safe reliable production for a highly diverse team. Direct and coordinate regulatory and mine planning budget and activities for the coal mine.   

SALARY RANGE: $78,200 – $117,300 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Mine Operations Engineering Manager

LOCATION: Gillette, Wyoming

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Provide engineering support and service to mine operations and maintenance departments.
  • Anticipate, perform complex analysis, and solve a range of problems by analyzing possible solution using standard engineering procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirement and industry standards.
  • Lead multiple projects and process improvement initiatives for the mine.
  • Provide technical input to achieve department goals.
  • Establish performance procedures, frequencies and action thresholds.
  • Monitor and evaluating mine performance.
  • Produce models or plans for mine operation.
  • Assist in developing short and long range mine planning and implement best practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop short- and long-range strategic plan for mine operation.
  • Attend relevant industry conferences. 
  • Contribute to budget process.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum of (3) three years of mine or utility industry experience required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrated technical and operational expertise.
  • Proficient knowledge of mine planning and drafting software. (ACAD is preferred). 
  • Understand and apply advanced concept of related engineering disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Proficient in word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to manage projects of varying scale simultaneously.
  • Ability to thoroughly document analytical work.
  • Team player and demonstrated ability to effectively lead in such an environment.
  • Self-starter, energetic, detail oriented, and proactive.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machinery and equipment. Employee frequently transports objects, ascends/descends equipment, and engages in repetitive motion while operating machinery. Employee may occasionally operate computer/mobile device, ascend/descend stairs and reach. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Light work. The employee is continuously moving about the job site or office space. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of reaching and moving controls exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters. Willing to travel up to 10% (e.g., 2 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
