Job Specifications

Manage the HR Solution Center team, responsible for HR, benefit and payroll transactions for Black Hills Energy and its subsidiaries.  Ensure accurate HR, benefit and payroll processing is completed within established time frames for multiple companies operating within multiple states, as well as accurate and timely filing of all applicable payroll reports (tax and other).

SALARY RANGE:   $95,350 - $157,300 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   Director, Shared Services

LOCATION: Our Corporate Headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure all processes and procedures in place and consistent with HR, benefit and payroll related transactions.
  • Handle the Benefit Open Enrollment process to ensure system is designed and functioning for team to answer questions from employees.
  • Guide and direct HR Shared Services Generalist Team, ensuring each team member maintains a level workload.
  • Administer payroll for assigned companies, ensuring completion of accurate processing and timely filing of all related reports.
  • Supervise and approve preparation and distribution of all year-end forms and filings.
  • Calculate and process special reports (performance-based pay and non-cash payments, stock vesting, issuances, exercises, new officer incentive plans, stock and stock options exercises etc.).
  • Coordinate month-end closing process for all payroll companies, maintaining an orderly, accurate, and secure filing system for all employee records.
  • Coordinate and perform due diligence for new Company acquisitions and new states' performing business in and for existing companies.
  • Manage HR Solution Center, including system issue resolution, enhancements, and upgrades, ensuring seamless call experience.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform any assigned duties in a professional manner to facilitate the objectives and goals of Company, enhancing the image of HR.
  • Align with and perform duties within company policies and procedures, including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and payroll regulations.
  • Present reports, metrics, new programs, recommendations, and updates to Senior Leadership, providing guidance, direction, support and expertise on any and all projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of (7) seven years of experience in Human Resources and Payroll required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of business and accounting procedures and methods, including automated accounting systems and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of payroll rules, regulations, processing procedures, record keeping, and control systems.
  • Ability to perform highly difficult accounting duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Ability to remain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Employee must be able to operate routine office equipment including computers and similar equipment. Must be able to routinely perform this work for an average of 6-8 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if moving about is only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
