Job Specifications

Provide technical support for service water wells, domestic water wells, make-up water treatment plant, water chemistry analyzers and monitors, data collection systems, and related equipment for monitoring and controlling water systems and chemistry monitoring at multiple power plants located at the Neil Simpson Complex in Gillette, Wyoming.

SALARY RANGE: $25.94 – $38.89 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  Process Chemistry Specialist 

LOCATION: Gillette, Wyoming

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on sample analyzers, instruments, and associated equipment.
  • Perform testing and calibrations on sample analyzers, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Maintain records of calibration, tests, certifications and maintenance performed.
  • Prepare reports on findings and provide to Process Chemistry Specialist.
  • Complete plans and estimates for work requested or assigned.
  • Support non-scheduled (call-out) technical support needs as required.
  • Communicate work progress to Managers, Supervisors, Engineers and Operators.
  • Utilize complex work management process to document and report work requested, planned, assigned, and completed.
  • Complete annual performance plan and update as required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all company policies and procedures on safety and work practices in a positive, professional manner.
  • Participate in on and off site training and development programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of (4) four years of experience with water/power plant chemistry, water treatment monitoring and analytical equipment or working in an industrial plant is required. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of power plant equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of power plant chemistry principles and water chemistry analytical, monitoring, and data collection equipment, including troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of high purity water treatment systems and monitoring equipment.
  • Skills in computer software, specifically MS Office Suite.  PI system software, Studio 5000, GE Proficy, and Auto-CAD.
  • Skills in configuring control systems, including PLCs.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, control system drawings, and piping & instrumentation drawings.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the job site and operates machines and equipment, ascends/descends stairs and ladders, maintains coordination, and works at elevated heights.  Employee frequently balances, engages in repetitive motions (kneeling, reaching) and uses a respirator. Employee may occasionally remain sedentary. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee routinely performs this work for an average of 8-12 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected. 

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors subject to sometimes high temperatures. Routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e., crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways), as well as maneuver in, over or around obstacles. Worker may be subject to vibration such as oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
