Job Specifications

The Technical Consultant will be responsible for all aspects of application support, application architecture design and administration including support for basic system architectures, software installation and configuration, security, and performance tuning. The primary focus in this role will be to provide technical support for our Utility Application systems and their supporting systems.

SALARY RANGE:  $78,200 - $117,300 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:   IT Supervisor, Utility WAM Application Systems

  • Prepare thorough and well written technical reviews of business applications, cloud services and third-party applications. 
  • Produce detailed, professional quality architectural diagrams.
  • Responsible in support and architectural design of multi-tiered applications.
  • Responsible in troubleshooting system issues including application, database, and network.
  • Responsible for the installation and configuration of complex software systems following established IT procedures and change control standards.
  • Work closely with co-workers, application developers and end-users to resolve application and performance related issues.
  • Ensure recoverability, security and integrity of designated systems.
  • Install, patch, and maintain designated systems in accordance with the IT patching policy.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of designated systems. 


  • Provide various application server support as needed and process requests in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work as part of the Technical Consulting team and provide 24x7x365 support when required
  • Ability to effectively document procedures for audit and control purposes. 


  • Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting complex multi-tiered applications required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.


  • Strong knowledge of Linux OS and Windows OS, architecture, and troubleshooting techniques is required.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-tiered applications is required.
  • Knowledge of Virtualization Technologies (VMWare, HyperV). 
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Perl, Python etc.).
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Java, .NET etc.). 
  • Understand the principles, theories and practices of effective project management. 
  • Self-motivated with ability to complete tasks without supervision.
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills. 
  • Superb communication, organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include light work. The employee is continuously moving about the job site or office space. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of reaching and moving controls exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
